City of Glasgow College was formed in November 2010 following the merger of three Glasgow colleges; Central College, Glasgow Metropolitan College and Glasgow College of Nautical Studies. It is one of Scotland’s largest Further Education institutions, home to over 30,000 students and 1,200 staff and offers over 2,600 full time, part time, day release and distance learning courses.
City of Glasgow College required a solution which would complement its £228m twin site super campus and provide relevant performance data easily accessed by managers in both campuses. It was also important that the system chosen would provide up to date information to prevent any delay in the availability of information for decision making.
Active Dashboards Solution
A college-specific dashboard solution was seen as the way forward and Dynistic’s Active Dashboards student data analysis software, provides accurate, real-time visibility, monitoring and reporting of key performance indicators such as student success, achievement and recruitment. City of Glasgow College has now been using Active Dashboards since August 2015. The information dashboard provides users with detailed information which allows them to drill down to examine issues and make decisions based on factual data.
Active Dashboards enable tutors to review teaching areas and methods, look at performance to identify key trends, monitor and track learners, measure success and fundamentally improve student satisfaction as part of their course meetings. Just six months since implementation, 75% of the college’s teaching staff are using Active Dashboards and the college has begun implementing it at Board level in order to further chart student attainment and retention.

Plans will undergo to integrate Active Dashboards in their Finance and HR departments, providing them with instant real-time access to information they require. Active Dashboards can also be utilised for workforce profiling to enable accurate skills, experience and knowledge planning for the future. – something not easily possible using their previous reporting systems.
